shine, bright morning light...
Wanda Maximoff
Codename: Capella
Age: 39
Character Affiliation: The X-Men

Powers;

Wanda is quite simply capable of converting sound waves into light; she can use these lights to create illuminations or holograms as well as blind her targets. If she gathered her lights up to a single force of sorts, she can use this as an offensive blast against her enemies.

Biography/History;

In the death of her mother Magda, her father Erik Lensherr had left her and her brother Pietro to the care of her mother's family -- this was how she came to be Wanda Maximoff and not Wanda Lensherr. Through her childhood, she came out to be a very normal girl -- helping her Auntie Marya in the house and going to school during the weekdays. She was a good student, bringing home passing grades and whatnot; it was also at such a young age that she came to develop a love for music with thanks to Marya's music collection and whenever she studied or read a book, she made sure to sit beside the woman while the LP spun on its player.

But when she reached puberty age, she began experiencing constant migraines and these were enough to keep her away from school, family and on her bed as she wrestled with the pain. Worried about his sister-in-law's daughter, Django Maximoff phoned a friend to come by and check up on his niece. After two days, Agatha Harkness, a family physician, came to visit the anxious family but despite her years in service as a doctor, she could not find any known explanation behind the migraine and could only dismiss it as something neurotic; she advised everyone to keep close check on the ailing girl in case the migraines were brought about by a problem she was not opening up to them. She also prescribed a few painkillers to help her sleep. Wanda heard of her diagnosis but doubted it was so: she saw herself as a happy girl with a cute crush and a great best friend waiting for her in school and a very handsome brother. But she decided that there was going to be no harm on opening up more than she had and so went with this solution.

As though a miracle, the migraine weakened and disappeared after a few weeks and Wanda was once more back in school and the music club. Because of this, she never stopped with the whole idea of opening up -- even going as far as actually talking to her crush when she used to be so shy and soon earning her first boyfriend and then her first kiss. She was very, very happy at that time.

A school dance happened to land on her calendar when she was on her first year in high school and she was invited to sing a solo on stage which she gladly accepted. On the night of the dance, however, and as she was performing one of her Aunt Marya's favorite songs, something unexplainable happened. From her reaching hand, light shone and surrounded her shape and sparkled and enticed the entire dance hall. Everyone was in awe at the sudden lightshow and the moment only proved to be more romantic and dramatic. Wanda, too, felt these emotions and as she sang louder, so did the lights glow brighter and though minute, she could feel the tremor underneath her skin.

More than it baffled her, it excited her.

She knew it was she who did the sudden lightshow and knew that it was not normal for a lady her age and her upbringing to have such skills but at that moment, she did not mind it at all. Later, as her date would take her home, she would dwell upon it and declare it a gift; the thought of being a mutant never crossed her mind.

From a simple girl who loved music and had a nice boyfriend, Wanda Maximoff soon came to be known as that girl who sang with the beautiful lights. Everyone talked to her and even asked her out to dinners, the music club couldn't be more proud. Wanda was also very thrilled at everything that was happening around her. She responded to everyone with a smile on her face and her boyfriend only came to be more protective around her. Amidst the whole opening-up-to-people scheme, though, this was something Wanda decided she had to keep to herself. It was only when her brother found her using her powers late at night inside her room that she spilled it to him -- the first person to know of this ever.

Still, her 'glory days' were short-lived as on the way home with her boyfriend after a practice that lasted until evening, a gang of school boys (the regular ones who don't even pass a single exam) surrounded them in a dim street with all intentions to shame the boyfriend before the popular Wanda. Both of them put up a fight of words though when they brandished bats from their backs, Wanda and her boyfriend fled.

The boys gave chase and they howled and cried, sending panic to the two lovers as they sought for some place to hide. As the chasers drew nearer and their taunting grew louder, Wanda felt the same tremor brushing under her skin and she shut her eyes and slapped her hands on her ears as she called to the boys to leave them alone. She tripped on her own feet and fell to the dark asphalt with a yelp. Her boyfriend came in between her and the laughing chasers and a one-sided fight ensued. Wanda saw this all from her trampled state -- her boyfriend being pushed this way and that and bats flying to his arms, back and legs. She begged numerous times for them to stop but the noise of the beat-up only grew louder and more unbearable -- enough for Wanda to explode.

With a single cry ("Stop it!!"), light burst from her body and surrounded the dim neighborhood like a sudden morning's glow and the boys would be thrown off their feet by a blast of sorts she would later find to be her very own light, as well. Everyone was blinded by her sudden powers and she used this chance to pick up her confused boyfriend and run away from him.

Alas, the secret could no longer be kept and a tearful Wanda spilled everything to her family as soon as her boyfriend was back in his mother's house. She told of the light and the explosion and basically everything that happened and she could not be consoled by any words or touch or colorful wings that Pietro wore on his back. It was at this convenient moment that the man Erik Lensherr, who she only knew later in his short visits to be her father, decided that another visit was in order. Having developed a fondness on the man since his relation to her was revealed, her tears burst as though floodgates were opened and she cried to Erik and confessed her anxieties. This was also the time that she (and her sudden butterfly of a brother) was told of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters; both she and Pietro were quick to accept her father's invitation.

Since having been enrolled into the school, things immediately turned for the better and what she liked to think was the good. She was taught to control the magnitude of her light (though she still had to sing or shout or talk loudly just to emit this) and easily made friends with the first students of the school. She wrote to her boyfriend about migrating to Europe and being sorry and that she loved him to cut all ties with him lest she do to him harm once more but a tragic love story aside, she was quite happy within the school's walls...until a falling out happened between Erik and Charles.

Much to her dismay, she had to move away with her brother and her father, wearing a sense of familial piety to accompany her father who had been disappointed with the way things turned out. But what lay before her -- the actions of her father, himself -- had done nothing but shock her. Mutant superiority was constantly hammered into her thoughts but the terroristic attacks (most of which her powers helped) were beyond her conscience's capability and despite being the daughter of the leader of what Erik called as the Brotherhood of Mutants, Wanda protested to these actions and threatened to run away. Eventually, that was what she and her brother did, anyway, after they decided that the life of a terrorist was not one for them.

Feeling heavy in her heart, Wanda returned with Pietro to Charles Xavier and was accepted back to the school without much discussion. Filled with gratitude and basically desperate to make up for all those misdeeds she'd done, she came to be a very helpful woman inside the mansion. She did the groceries, some cleaning and some cooking though because she could not even be a good chef without messing the kitchen up, she decided to just order out and pay for it; she also taught music and arts to the children. Wanda practiced her powers with extra effort and as her years in the mansion grew, so did her control over her light spells. Not much longer would she be joining the X-Men in their clean up operations whenever her father made a mess of something.

Since having returned to Xavier's School, as well, Wanda has been switching jobs from one after another. From a popcorn vendor in a movie house, she would move to a jazz bar as a back-up singer. In a sense, this would be her moment of discovery as she would be invited to her current job: a lounge singer in one of the five-star hotels of New York. In this job, she was happy to be able to sing her Aunt Marya's favorite songs and though her neophyte classy fashion was quite obvious in her first month, she soon absorbed the elegant atmosphere that was demanded of her. It was also in this job that Wanda will find her second boyfriend who was a fan of hers. Given the arrangement that it was mostly a night job for her, she taught in the school during daytime though when the school moved away, she stayed with the X-Men and took the mornings as her resting times.

Currently, Wanda isn't thinking about changing this arrangement.

Personality;

Wanda is very sincere in her words and her thoughts and usually finds no reason to hold them back. She likes people a lot and though having lost her childhood perkiness for a woman's calm demeanor (except to Pietro who she likes to remind of being older than her and possessing Princess Rainbow Wings but she loves him with all her heart), she's still quite fond of sitting down for a chat. She also has an air of poise resting on her shoulders wherever she went which could be blamed to her current job and she carries herself with sweet confidence. Wanda is also quite passionate in what she does both as a singer and an X-Man -- music has always been a part of her life and she believes firmly in Charles' cause and would verily like to see it unfold before her eyes.

Because of her brother's 'girly and pansy' powers, too, Wanda tends to take the helm when it comes to defending him. She's not going to think twice to blind anyone who offends him or kick them with her 3-in. stilettos without being sorry about it. Sometimes, she might be too overprotective people might say, but as long as she can defend Pietro, Wanda would cross a thousand miles just to do that.

Strengths;

She's possibly one of the most supportive women in the X-Mansion, selfless enough to lend a little of her time to try and help a problem thrown or shared her way. She's also quite thoughtful when it comes to her friends, like if she sees a cake she knows someone likes, she would buy said cake just for that someone (lately, she's learning how to sew so she can make shirts for her brother with space to slip his wings through). She has it easy reaching out to people no matter what the occassion and makes sure that everyone around her is fine or at least managing. During missions, Wanda prefers to stay in the backbone works for support; in case anyone needs her, she figured they could just run to her.

Weaknesses;

Wanda might become a bit too blabbery for some people and she does have a tendency of repeating stories over and over again. She doesn't take being shut up too nicely though she's working on that. Sometimes, Wanda is also easily distracted and bored from whatever she's asked to do if it's nothing interesting to her or if she has someone she could talk to, neglecting about the job at hand just for the chatter. She also tends to be a little too pushy on someone with her flurry of suggestions, questions, and whatnot.

Appearance;

She likes her hair wavy and long, usually let down and very rarely pulled up to a pony tail. If she does do something to her hair, it would be up to a bun of sorts and is usually for a performance. On stage, Wanda is anything but simple. She is quite careful to put up an elegant and romantic presence, donning herself with an expensive(-looking) gown that very well told everyone of how she cares for her vital statistics; red is a favorite color. On a normal day, though, she's fine with wearing anything: jeans, slacks, a Sunday dress, but she's quite particular with how the clothes fit her. If they don't compliment her colors and make her look just sexy, it's off with them.
